I so often feel like tearing computing down & rebuilding it...
I'm probably biased, but I'd much rather live in a world where the machines I'm describing in my hypotheticals were on store shelves. Rather than one where I'm choosing between an Android & an iPhone.
Oh, and a world where fascism wasn't spreading across the globe! That's the bigger issue here.
One where we were actively moving away from fossil fuels, & seeking to be more energy efficient.
Others?
@FediVideo hey, I have two peertube accounts, @screwtape@communitymedia.video which has extended weekly archives of the years-running Tuesday-evening-in-the-Americas #lispyGopherClimate and @screwtape@toobnix.org which has the peertube live recordings of the Sunday-morning-in-europe-peertube-live edition.
Kind of #lisp (programming language) community news, also heavily featuring the longest running online virtual reality, lambdaMOO, the gopher and similar topics. Sort of retrocomputing but also bleeding edge.
One of the issue I see too often with folks learning to program in #Uxn(or any other catlang) is to write to memory without creating methods for handling the buffer, leading to out-of-bounds writing.
Instead of append(strptr, char), consider the str.append(char) pattern. The OOP-style allows for that method to access boundaries and capabilities of that buffer.
I've added the string example to the uxnrepl examples.
I've had a #Gemini capsule - as part of my Tilde Club account - for ages now, and never did anything with it.
It will sit empty no longer! Instead, it'll serve as a home for text-only article copies - ad-free, graphics-free, HTML-free. No cookies, no tracking, and absolutely no "AI".
The first day's worth of articles are live now, accessible in any Gemini browser (or via manual protocol-poking, or a Gemini proxy in a Web browser.)
While cleaning a storage room, our staff found this tape containing #UNIX v4 from Bell Labs, circa 1973
Apparently no other complete copies are known to exist: https://gunkies.org/wiki/UNIX_Fourth_Edition
We have arranged to deliver it to the Computer History Museum
the sysadmins dont want you to know this but there are ports below port 20. nobody knows what they do, physicists suspect it might be related to dark matter. the government agencies scrub all mentions of these ports off the open internet. i am revealing all of this to you at great risk to my life,
"Hypertext 2: Zettelkasten" by @marick

This is the best explanation of Niklas Luhmann's Zettelkasten I have seen so far.
50 years on from the dismissal. The US government actively destabilising the Australian democracy. Pine Gap should be suspended and a full report made to the Australian & American people on all activities conducted there. #auspol

Ah, I didn't tell anyone but in two hours I am going to be talking to @alexshendi about the #lisp assembly happening in Germany on the #peertube #live. (9am Sunday CET) = 2.5 hours from now
channel : https://toobnix.org/a/screwtape/videos
EDIT: LIVE NOW SCROLL DOWN #C3
EDIT2: FINISHED NOW (#archive will come up when the 'live' stops being available). Remember to spread the word that Alex is looking for lisp around C3, happening late December and to talk directly to him if you have an idea
@screwlisp absolutely amazing! 🤩
#lispGameJam #submission #itchio #gameDev #programming #commonLisp
wooo I made my #unix_surrealism jam week game and player-focused level editor (well, prescription anyway). The jam submission is here: https://itch.io/jam/autumn-lisp-game-jam-2025/rate/3822491#post-14732650
But the article/instructions mirror in which itchio did not break my markdown is here: https://screwlisp.small-web.org/lispgames/instructions-for-game-jam/
Here's to a job done sufficiently. Meets Expectations.
Current prototypes of Sentinel 65X have 512KB of SRAM. This amount was chosen for cost reasons, to keep the price low.
Would you pay extra for more RAM? Say, 2MB or 4MB? See, my perspective is that I'm broke, I like things cheap -- but I get the feeling more and more that other people have a lot more disposable income than I, so if they're willing to foot the bill, why not give them what they want?
Okay, putting finishing touches on my jam before submitting. I will still be able to collect your own s-expression levels into it up until the jam closing (tomorrow, my time). After I get the files organized on itch I will add an article that is literally a couple lines of vanilla ansi cl that make a suitable level file.
