I love yt-dlp.

I especially love --cookies-from-browser

@vidak Yeah, OG Atari BASIC is weird about strings, & slow, but so full of useful graphics & sound & XIO file system tools. BASIC XL and then TurboBasicXL quickly replaced/added to it.

The only other OG BASIC I liked was TRS-80, esp. CoCo had even better tools. I only used ZX-81 BASIC back then, but Spectrum is nice and weird, too.

@vidak @akkartik you should check out lite! https://github.com/rxi/lite/

@vidak @akkartik It sounds like Obsidian to me

https://obsidian.md/

However, a tiny and extendable text editor sounds sick, especially if it has mobile support (looking at you, tic80). Obsidian's Android client is clunky and slow. Something that's small, agile, and extendable would be a great way to fill that niche.

Guard droids are introduced in the seventh of the Jam Levels. They have a set list actions that they follow every turn. Sometimes they shoot, sometimes they just patrol. Watch them on the first turn to see what they do. Contact with them is fatal. In this level, you need to avoid their path as you take the data card to the reader. With Soldier or Multibot you could shoot them, but that's probably a waste of time here. Get from https://cyningstan.itch.io/team-droid

Thinker times its steps carefully to avoid contact with the guard as the two droids' paths cross. The "Take Item" action has just dropped out of the library, so it won't be back soon. Thinker will have to push the data card carefully past the patrolling guards.

Relesed a 256 byte intro for TIC-80 at @deadline_demoparty, called Neasden Ballet...

Pretty happy with this one. Made it entirel on the train down here, using the raycasting technique I've attempted on the last couple of @FieldFX Monday night jams but not quite managed to pull off until now.

How many seemingly trivial 70s and 80s games, all centred around high scores, do I love more than any modern one?

So many.

@akkartik I think this idea has legs, and can be written in Tiny BASIC...

Opcodes would look like --

Insert line, append line, search string, replace line...

The VM would be modular, ie, it would be accessed through a 'client' that would be displaying the text.

It's probably going to be slow and complicated, but I am really enjoying this thought experiment!

...and then after I would do what I always do, and rewrite it all in Common Lisp ๐Ÿ˜‡

Did you know you can get PRINT ISSUES of @theonion.com ??

Would make a great gift! https://membership.theonion.com/

Guardian doesn't say how, so this link gives guidance.

After having spent some time transcribing and coding in a few BASICs, I think Atari 8-bit BASIC has an advantage over Commodore BASIC V2.

I felt quite a bit of nostalgia for Commodore BASIC, having learned it as a child, but it would be fair to say Atari 8-bit BASIC is more powerful.

Time to find a good Atari emulator for Debian 13...!

OK, I fixed the character remapping in my little Atari 8-bit adventure, but it's assigned to all the wrong characters.
