# QUOTATIONS

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. ~winnie-the-pooh

i got diagnosed with autism in 2009/2010 and my family basically said no, and then i pretty much never went back to that psychologist, and then never talked about it ever again

in the past few years loads of people have immediately assumed that i am neurodivergent and it has been startling

i'm 34 in february and i cannot explain to you how mashed up my brain feels sometimes, being denied support and having to enter patterns of crisis just to get help has affected me deeply

not really sure what else to say but if i had kids and they asked me for help, comfort, and acceptance, i would fucking give it to them

this part of the year is the hardest for me

one part of it is the weather: persistent, dry 40 degree celsius heat, i can barely think or breathe sometimes. sleeping is difficult, and when i cannot sleep i am a total wreck.

i had my first psychotic attack at this time of the year, everything about the heat puts me in this head space.

the other part is human and social: turning up for the family, taking my place in the pecking order, and putting on a mask for hours/days on end.

this year i have come to dread it. to them, i am the disabled, failed, idiot black sheep of the family. "doctor, lawyer, engineer, dead to me": and i dropped out of law school in disgust.

i am sick of being asked if i am taking my meds if i don't look perfectly happy. it feels like i am just a problem to be managed. has anyone else had a parent or guardian listen to a doctor instead of you?

for the last few months i have had nothing to say to any of them. none of them have ever had any interest in me, despite my efforts to try and get praise from them. none of them actually know me, they actually never bothered to try.

See you at ?, I may carry some floppies with the next release :-)

Child of Nine, pt. 5, pt. 6, pt. 7

Rabbit and Nine are walking across the desert. They're having a conversation:

Rabbit: "...what do you mean 'why'? Because cinap didn't want to. Simple as."

Monochrome voice off-screen: "Ehm..."

Fossangel smoking a cigarette crosses their path.

Fossangel: "Rabbit of the Nine clan... I am the-"

Rabbit interrupts the angel.

Rabbit: "I know what you are. And we are not interested."

Fossangel: "That's cute. Unfortunately for you, that's not how this works. The spirit wants to know you're doing your part." Rabbit punches Fossangel, surprising it.

Rabbit: "At least put out the cigarette in front of the kid."

Fossangel: "I'll let the Spirit of the Machine know you're still the same asshole as ever."

Rabbit: "Don't forget to mention it should go fuck itself." Fossangel is gone.

Nine, surprised: "Did you just punch an angel?"

Rabbit: "I punched something that thinks it has monopoly on freedom."

........

Someplace unknown, impossible to describe, an avatar of the Spirit of the Machine talks to Fossangel.

Spirit: "Well? How did it go?"

Fossangel: "He's still the best we got."

The cloud is just someone else's computer, and they probably don't back it up as often as you'd like. Better keep those important files on a disk locally at two different locations, just in case. 😉

Our new world project is out - Bluesky Firehose VR! It's a live feed of all posts on Bluesky, as obtained through the ATProto firehose. @luna@f.l4.pm and I really cooked on this. PCVR, Quest, desktop, and mobile compatible.

Y’all, not only are people being arrested nonsensically for terrorism because the healthcare industry suddenly realized that if you kick a dog enough, eventually it will bite you, apparently they’ve decided that the public should not have facts or data that may lead them to understand how badly the insurance industry is managing the health of Americans.

ValuePenguin, a data collection and analysis site, is the origin of the viral chart showing denial rates of claims to insurance. They were first contacted by a company who wanted them to take data down, then when they didn’t, law enforcement showed up.

Just in case you were wondering who controls the cops...it’s the capital class.

Here’s a deep dive into how insurance companies hide and prevaricate their data, so that people don’t realize what crooks they all are.

Here’s the VP link for the chart and their notes about data takedown:

Dang, 's docx -> epub export is better than that of , or at least it preserves enumerations. :pandoc_pats:

And that's two weeks of ! So far, I've enjoyed a balanced diet of creative coding and documentation writing that spans uxn, ternary and rewriting systems.

@cwebber has a great thread going about the ways the Bluesky can't ever truly be decentralized in any meaningful fashion.

From what I have read about the protocol, I suspected that this was true, and I had a vision in my head of what it would be like if BS was to take off.

Says it very well. Bsky will create a pantheon. A very small number of full participants with operational budgets the size of cities, a much larger number of entirely dependent serfs.

Mastodon and the wider activitypub based fediverse isn't perfect, but Christine and the rest of the folks who wrote the activitypub standard created something that could actually support fully distributed operation (where each user can be a full particpant with full control over their experience), as opposed to bsky (which appears to be designed to pay lipservice to user freedom, while actually enforcing a world in which users only have the freedom to choose which fuedal lord they're pledged to.)

prices produce privation. they necessitate absence. on survival goods, that means starvation, sickness, and death from exposure, are all required results of capitalism. it can never be convinced to be rid of these evils any more than it can be persuaded to bury itself. therefore capitalism must be destroyed.

Took my latest node up a very tall tower on top of a tall hill yesterday - connected the Mt Dandenong router to my local mesh, over 120km link!

Is there some way I could configure my linux laptop to, when it runs out of memory, just fucking oomkill the offending process instead of locking up for 2 minutes and 30 seconds and then oomkilling
