These are the course notes of an Interlisp and LOOPS (Lisp Object-Oriented Programming System) course taught at Ohio State University in the 1980s. The first few dozen pages contain some papers on exploratory programming and the Interlisp philosophy.

Hey @fozztexx, congrats, that's a great achievement!

I don't suppose the #Commodore64 has something equivalent to the #AppleII PR#n/IN#n from BASIC? On an Apple II it's easy to redirect BASIC so it reads & writes to a serial port allowing remote control of the Apple II from another machine.
On my #C64 I've got a program loaded and I'd like to be able to dump the bytes in RAM out a serial port so I can check if any bytes are missing or the wrong value. I need to do it without stomping on the loaded program.

more importantly soldering is fun
i wish i had more things to solder
i partly turned back to hobby coding because it's cheaper than electronics lol
Every one of you is precious and wonderful and unique and necessary and deserving of life and love and peace.
Anything your brain does to try to convince you otherwise is a mean trick.
Please try to remember this. Remember it unceasingly.
to address the climate crisis, use computers that have at most 1 MIPS
cute lil lightweight thin clients just freely telnetting and playing turn based games via packet radio!
yeah bluesky is enshittification, thank you, someone correct on the internet today
just use the fediverse through mastdon or pleroma
family is the only damn thing that matters and the fediverse sure as hell is my family
i think? i kind of understand DATA statements in BASIC now, they seemed a little redundant at first...
but when you pack loads of colour and graphics data into every line, with at MOST two FOR loops you can really jazz up yer BASIC
The arctic seed library was unequivocally a good idea; when you think about it, the fact that stable biospheres exist at all is a fucking miracle. The folks sitting up there in the snow clearly had a lot of time to think about this fact, before they went rogue.
The lab equipment and grow-tanks in the library were intended for testing the long term viability of stored seeds. The giant refrigeration units were mostly there to supplement the natural refrigeration during the height of the brief arctic summers.
After the Diaspora we reconstructed what they did: the gene sequencers in the lab combined all the millions of collected genomes into the Metaseed. Cannibalism of refrigeration coils made a handy linear accelerator to propel soda-can sized metaseed parcels toward dozens of targets in the solar system, and hundreds beyond.
All¹ these verdant worlds are yours.

¹Except Europa, something ate the metaseeds that impacted there.
Dire Straits - "Setting Me Up"
there are some killer guitar solos in this track. truly a hidden gem. some real pickin' here, son.
The kids wanted to play Minecraft together and I nearly flipped tables after dealing with the launcher/ M$ account shit etc. for 2 minutes. 🤯 Just NO. But.. It took me 5 minutes to learn Minetest / Luanti exists, download and run two copies, create a LAN game on one notebook and join it on another. Great experience.. zero bullshit - just a folder with the game files, a client.exe - Zen! 😌 Thanks to @Luanti and all the people working on this! 💙

RIP Thomas Kurtz, cocreator of BASIC.

I just learned via @Sempf that Thomas E. Kurtz, co-creator of the BASIC programming language with John Kemeny (1926–1992), has died:

BASIC isn’t just of historical interest to me. It’s an part of everyday artistic practice: I write programs in Commodore 64 BASIC v2, Applesoft BASIC, and yabasic as often as I can. The language (which became a family of languages for microcomputers) was the lingua franca of popular computing and is still the standard for such.
Here’s a Heltec V3 in a deli container with a 1w solar panel and an 18650! Setting up #meshtastic in my small town.
This is a temporary test while I’m waiting for my much more energy efficient Rok Wisblock boards to arrive, can’t wait to cover the whole town!
@mike stay safe 🙏
