I wonder what it is possible to do with a dial up internet connection today.
Because I have always wanted to run a dial up ISP.

@vidak All of the protocols designed to run over dial up links like ssh and http - but good luck with that, as over 56k dial-up 1MiB takes ~18 seconds to transmit.
There's no point running dial-up anymore even if all you have is a single twisted pair connection in poor condition, as there is much more usable ADSL2 hardware and it's slightly less pitifully slow.
If you are going to run cables, you either want to run 100BASE-TX over cat6 (usually works over several hundred metres), or fibre (works over several km with right SFP modules).
