For some reason, the sculpture of the two golden rings that spin on top of each other in Jet Force Gemini never left my mind. It's nice that someone else also gives it a second look.

@neauoire Hey, we just watched the Superman movies this past weekend!

@akkartik Oh shit!!! cool there they are haha. Looks really nice too

@neauoire Those first 2 movies still got it. Particularly if you're 7 years old haha.

@neauoire I was enamored with the same effect in Superman (1978) when I was a kid.

Jor-El looks on as two rings appearing to spin atop each other imprison General Zod and his associates.

@neauoire trying to find all of the teddy bears in that game to be able to finish it ruined my life as a child xD

@neauoire Reminds me of The Meanie, from the videogame The Sentinel. They look like this and they are deployed by the enemy when you can't be seen. The Meanie rotates around until it can see you and then teleports you (generally bad).

A Meanie from the C64 version of the videogame The Sentinel. A blue and yellow check floor with red hills. On it stands a tree, and a meanie, which looks a little bit like a low polygon cobra.

@csprng haha @akkartik just shared me the sequence too! I hadn't seen this one

@bd I know the feeling haha.

"Any plans for this summer?"
"Killing Emerald Weapon"

@neauoire @akkartik It's a really nice illusion! It appears to defy physics, then you realize it's just a solid structure rotating and your mind is blown. I wonder if there are earlier examples of the effect?

@neauoire You have bandwidth again now, right? This seems highly relevant https://mastodon.social/@jaromil/113313830977103271
