Internet connection upgrades are going to be happening to this site of SKSLAN...

"collapse doesn't look like the movies. it looks like food prices increasing, it looks like once in a generation storms every few years, it looks like rising fascism and slow brain rot. it looks like silence from the powerful and burnout for those who care. this system is devouring itself — and us with it. we need a new story, one rooted in life, not profit."

we were having a discussion in uni about a movie that had a schizophrenic character and i said that i found the movie in bad taste because it reinforced stigma against mentally ill people, that they're "dangerous to society" or whatever and my collegemates who claim they are progressive said that they would still fear and not trust those people because "stereotypes don't come from nowhere". i told one of them "you could justify any bigotry w this" and she's like "no that's different!"

The Free Software Foundation (NASDAQ: RMS) has announced the Free Software alternative to the evil, DRM-infested, locked-down, defective-by-design iPhone: the GNUPhone.

The key technical innovation of the GNUPhone is that it is completely operated from the command line. “What could be more intuitive than a bash prompt?” said seventeen-year-old Debian developer Hiram Nerdboy. “The ultimate one-dimensional desktop! Just type ‘dial voice +1-555-1212 --ntwk verizon --prot lte --ssh-version 2 -a -l -q -9 -b -k -K 14 -x’ and away you go! Simple and obvious!”

The phone will also serve as a versatile personal media player. “I can play any .au file or H.120 video with a single shell command! The iPod could never measure up to this powerful ease of use.” Video is rendered into ASCII art with aalib. “If blocky ASCII teletype softcore pinups were good enough for 1970s minicomputer operators, they’re good enough for you. Respect your elders.”

Actual successful voice calls are expected by 2030 to 2032. Regulatory approval is proving problematic in the corrupt, corporate-captured US environment. “The FCC said that if we dared switch on this, uh, ‘piece of shit’ in a built-up area in its present form, they’d break all our fingers with a fourteen-pound cluebat,” said Nerdboy. “They’re obviously shilling for Apple, Samsung and Google.”

The second version of the GNUPhone will run EMACS on the HURD kernel and be operated by writing eLisp macros on the fly. “It’s the clearest, most elegant and natural operating environment anyone could conceive of,” said Nerdboy. “Really, we’re not out to destroy Apple; that will just be a completely unintentional side effect.”

Well, after an initial failure, my grant application for has been accepted under the NGI0 Commons Fund. 💪

This means that for the next months my main focus will be fully on making in the programming language easier for other developers.

If you're one of them, reach out, I want to know what you struggle with and how I can help with that.

Broke: guerrilla gardening means throwing seed bombs over fences everywhere and hoping something sticks but never checking in

Woke: guerrilla gardening is getting to know the land better than anyone who claims to own it, and growing resilient and sneaky plant comrades to help you protect some liminal patch you have regular access to

Good evening everyone 🌙

I did a bit more coding after work on fumiko, the common lisp text editor, but it does not spark joy.

I unwrapped the VGA32 board, it looks and feels surprisingly solid.

I have been thinking about drawing an illustrated book introducing BASIC to children.

Also maybe porting as many games as possible to this little VGA board running BASIC.

In 1995, a few folks who didn't know me threw together some dough to send me to Clarion. I would not be a pro writer today without that boost.

Time to pay it forward. I threw the kid a few bucks. She'd appreciate your help too.

This stunning 500-year old Bonsai was recipient of the "Prime Minister's Award" (内閣総理大臣賞).

One of the key factors in determining the 'worth' of Bonsai is their age. It's only after about 100 years that their value truly increases, so many trees become treasured heirlooms.
