mass murders, bloodthirsty imperialism
I'm about halfway thru this book The Jakarta Method and while I had some familiarity with the events, learning about the wider context has been really eye-opening in a gut wrenching way
in 1965 a CIA-sponsored coup overthrew the government of Indonesia and installed a right-wing puppet general as president, who went on to purge the country of communists and suspected communists in one of the bloodiest mass murder campaigns of the second half of the 20th century, around a million people were killed and another million imprisoned

For the last couple months I have been working on a server recreation for dead MMO "Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands" along with assistance from @HunterZ and @Bogusmeatfactory. Today we reached a milestone - the ability to create a character, pass the introductory "cutscene" (narration), and walk around the world talking to NPCs!
Well, at least I COULD walk around the world, if I hadn't badmouthed the soldier at the start and wound up in a jail cell :P
my new article for green left.
i am one of those people--an "election wonk".
as an election approaches, i will be hunched over big wads of paper, spending hours and hours scrolling through tables of seemingly pointless numbers.
please find here a ~500 word article that has some of the most important things to note about the March 8, 2025 WA Parliament election.
i have a couple of documents that go way deeper into all the numbers. if you would like a copy let me know.

Join Friends of Palestine WA for this emergency rally for Palestine.
Israel has unilaterally ended the ceasefire with the backing of the Trump administration. Since Tuesday morning, Israel has killed more than 400 Palestinians in one of the bloodiest bombardments of the Gaza Strip. This is on top of the more than 60,000 killed in the Gaza genocide over the past eighteen months.
Since the January 19 ceasefire, tanks have rolled into the West Bank and over 40, 000 Palestinians have been displaced. In Australia, there has been an offensive against people who have spoken up for Gaza.
Now is the time to stand up and stand strong. Join our next Rally for Palestine - end the bombing of Gaza, immediate and permanent ceasefire now!

I have been investigating Discord alternatives for a while. If you want to self-host and like frugal software, IRC is the way to go. If you like federation so that multiple people can host the same channels, ngircd is what I use. For users who donβt like IRC clients, I recommend you install The Lounge. If you use it with accounts, users can upload images, too.
If you need voice chats, use mumble. If you need video, I am hoping to give Galène a try.
All the other solutions I saw need a lot more resources (subdomains, docker images, separate database servers and so on).
Hey, I made a quick #commonLisp utility package that just provides 200 names https://codeberg.org/tfw/common-names .
The initial names are the top 100 most common historically collected girls and boys birth names in #NZ from 1954 to 2024.
oh hey what's that--it's the next #lispGameJam open!
