You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. ~winnie-the-pooh

the autumn equinox was yesterday? wow that means there's only about 1 month before the autumn lisp game jam starts! put on a cozy sweater, eat a slice of apple pie, and organize your parentheses so you're ready to go when the jam begins!

I have to say, CRT filters on modern emulators are *amazing*; it's been years since I looked at any of them.

This just has the CRT filter, no other filter (e.g. no NTSC filter), so it looks like what a good RGB SCART cable might give you on a PVM or high-end consumer CRT.

Make sure you view this not zoomed out/in. Make sure to view the images at their exact size (that's why I provided some cropped examples).

I'm a purist. I always prefer hardware, on a real CRT. But this is pretty damn close!

I made a couple of things that some people might find useful.

- mytoots.el: Search your offline archive from the comfort of and curate your old posts in or HTML

- ol-toot.el: An Org-mode "toot" link type for Mastodon posts that works with mastodon.el

Testing and feedback welcome

EDIT 2024-09-24: Now with better integration between the tools, improved docs

@vidak
The Pico 2 is even beefier. I hope they fix the pin latch up problem though. I want to use it for a Smalltalk system but the Pico 1 isn't quite enough.

For those of you have doubted the use of the term 'Corporate Welfare' here is some pretty strong proof.... UK corporate tax breaks will likely cost £20bn more than they generate over the next five years (even the Treasury agrees they will cost more)

Lets be clear; the UK state (taxpayers) are subsidising corporations, while also offering policy & fiscal measure intended to 'maintain' their profits.

This is welfare for corporations!

Freeloaders?

What is ?

Simply put, a mobile phone whose interface is @signalapp . My initial plan is to start with a and install only enough Linux on it to run Signal. The purpose is to create a device that secures the endpoint to the same degree in which Signal itself is secure, and that there is no chance for O/S, vendor, other applications, etc. to do any shenanigans with your private communications.

The reason the Web became ubiquitous was because it was open and freely published, with no patents or royalties.

The more paywalls we introduce, the more subscriptions we tolerate, the more siloed our data - our planet - and our lives - become.

in other news have been meditating on the words "the most ecological computer is the one you already have".

i wonder what this means in the context of permacomputing...

do any of those vintage macintosh emulators do networking?

i want some sort of excuse to eventually own a vintage mac again, would love to learn more about its programming environment

fellas

i have a solution to all the problems we’re having on the fediverse

we should all switch to using hypercard

Should I take Monday off “work” to see if I can build a proof-of-concept in one day?

@capital @neauoire the quotient rule.... to be fair when you finish the problem it feels amazing 😂😅

~Project Orihime: buttons and system font~

Project Orihime is a concept of a modern user interface for EGA and VGA displays running in 16 colours, aimed primarily at FreeGEOS.

The goal here is to bring an eye-candy interface and good UX to the 1984 IBM PC clones.

This is not a real UI (yet), but it gets more and more fleshed out, and I think it looks great on both CRTs and LCDs of the era.

I want to try and document some of my progress for your enjoyment. It also helps me to make better sense of design decisions I am taking on the go. Thread!

A screenshot of a computer display. It shows a file manager and a calculator app on top of black-and-blue wallpaper of a boy from Persona 3 Reload floating in the air.

welcome to the fediverse! it's easy to get started, just pick one of these 30,000 nation-states you want to swear absolute allegiance and fealty to. you WILL be judged for this decision later. good luck!

been thinking a lot about my projects, but have not had much time to put into them.

in between working and activism and domestic life, i find myself frequently exhausted

what has been done so far:

  • regarding uwu.lisp, my common lisp tamagotchi: the shop menu system is working, ie you can navigate lil text menu options properly. lisp cond macros are great.

  • the people's permacomputer project has had me dwelling on it a lot. all that is needed is:

    • gopher protocol browser
    • filesystem access
    • a text editor

i think such a system will need at least 16K RAM, but luckily the pi pico is fairly beefy.

you guys it’s today

@neauoire as far as i remember the point is to be as simple as possible, up until now i always thought of something not completely simplified as full of extraneous terms!
